Achieving your Wellness goals in 2022

Chances are many of you have decided to undertake a New Years resolution! Congratulations! You have committed to improving an aspect of your life, and hopefully it includes your health and wellness. Sadly many people break these promises to themselves leaving them disappointed and unmotivated. Here are a few ideas to keep you on track this year!

Set Realistic Goals

The best way to fall short of your goal is to set unrealistic goals. For instance, trying to lose 30 pounds in a month is going to set you up to relapse. Or to never eat your favourite food again is setting you up to fail. Instead, strive for a goal that is attainable, such as choosing good food first. To curb cravings try drinking a large glass of water and have a handful of veggies or fruit. Remember, you never regret not eating junk food! “Darn, I wish would have eaten that chocolate bar last night!?” That never happens! Remember, each positive decision moves you toward health and wellness and toward your goals.

Track Your Progress

Break your long term goal into smaller parts. Keep track of each small success. Smaller short-term goals are easier to keep. Each small accomplishment will help with motivation. Instead of focusing on losing 30 pounds, focus on losing the first two. Or focus on not snacking after super time. Keep a food journal to help you stay on track, and reward yourself for successes after each week. Some people may not even lose weight, which can seem frustrating. So if weight is your goal be sure to measure your waist, arms and legs. If your losing inches that means your also building muscle if your weight stays constant!

Plan Ahead

Don’t make your resolution on New Year’s Eve. Even take the first few days of your resolution to properly plan your upcoming goals so it can properly benefit you.

Also plan ahead for each short-term goal. Leave out your walking cloths the night before. Prepare meals ahead and freeze them. Make an exercise schedule ahead so you plan a slow progression. Too many people exercise like crazy for 2 weeks then quit because they're exhausted or injured. Keep your health and wellness in mind, Don't just beat yourself up.

Each positive decision moves you toward health and wellness and toward your goals.

Be prepared for set backs

Temptation is always there! Be ready! Decide how you will deal with the temptation to skip that exercise class or have that piece of cake at a birthday party. Occasional slip are ok, especially if you plan for them.

Call on a friend for help, have a training partner, use positive self talk. Reward yourself for good behaviour, and be ready to get back on track when you slip up.

Don't forget to talk to your Doctor of Chiropractic. I strive to get your body functioning at it's best. I'll keep you in line and on track!!

Work hard, health and wellness has nothing to do with luck!
